Wells- A regularly scheduled meeting of the Maine Community College System (MCCS) Board of Trustees was held at Washington County Community College on June 25th. Among agenda items discussed, and voted on, was the approval of a new Criminal Justice Degree program for York County Community College.
YCCC will begin offering Criminal Justice courses in the Fall 2008 semester. The Criminal Justice Associate Degree program focuses on the criminal justice system, its organizational components and processes and its legal and public policy contexts. The program includes instruction in criminal law and policy, police and correctional systems organization, the administration of justice and the judiciary, and public attitudes regarding criminal justice issues.
The Criminal Justice degree is designed to prepare students for careers in police work, corrections and security- in addition to serving as the basis to transfer on to complete a baccalaureate degree. For those already in service, the program provides educational progress for promotion and other career development purposes.
