WELLS- A reception took place at York County Community College on September 25, 2008 to celebrate the completion of the $2 million YCCC Foundation Partners Enriching Lives Major Gifts Campaign. The monies raised will benefit new programs, projects and initiatives at Maine’s youngest community college.
York County’s only public institution of higher education quietly and discerningly raised enough private and public funds to exceed its campaign goal. Funds from the successful drive have already made a recognizable impact on the small, yet growing, institution. With fantastic enrollment surges for the last 3 years, the College needed to turn to the community for financial support to keep pace with the growing enrollment.
“Over 300 donors contributed over $2.1 million to this campaign. We are proud of the number of individuals and businesses who believe in the mission and future of YCCC,” said Dr. John Rainone, YCCC Foundation Executive Director.
The ability to fund over $400,000 in student scholarships, upgrade instructional equipment, establish a Learning Center for academic support and expand the college’s library are only a few of the many enhancements made possible by the campaign.
Also recognized were the Campaign’s lead gift donors. Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, Kennebunk Savings Bank, Pratt & Whitney, Sanford Institution for Savings, and George & Shirley Pope were all recognized for their donations of $100,000 or more.
Special recognition was given to Lorraine Boston, Executive Vice President of Kennebunk Savings Bank, Foundation Board Member and Co-Chair of this Campaign, who was awarded an Honorary Associate of Science Degree in Business Administration for her dedication and support of YCCC. In traditional pomp and circumstance, President Charlie Lyons and Vice President/Dean of Academic Affairs, Paula Gagnon presented this award, complete with a formal cap and gown. Local author Neil Rolde, campaign co-chair, was also recognized for his unyielding commitment to the campaign.
